I don’t own this one but I do have the Braun Freeglider, which had a similar skin-conditioner gimmick, long-since discontinued. Do you really want some lotion applied before you are completely finished shaving? Plus it adds to the expense, especially once the mfgr DROPS the item and you have to search for parts. That is what happened to me. The Braun razor by itself still works fine, I should note.

Spent more time cleaning it than using it
Somewhere in our modern expectations we’ve become entitled to the impossible combination of FreddyKrueger close but feather pampering and w/o a scratch.
This Philips nearly does it, when you shoot Nivea goo out of an electric razor with brand new sharp blades, you’ll get a close shave and massage then a royal mess to clean trimming goo pie out of the heads.
Then, I took an old, 12 year old 110v Remington WalMart sold shaver so old it even had a metal body instead of 7 types of plastic and shot Gillette Shaving gel onto the mug and the 12 year old electric did the same job.
Fact, if you took enough Nivea or any shaving gel, you could trim your beard with a weedeater, a saber saw and have just as much mess to clean out of your electric shaver.

I normally shave with a regular safety razor, the 4-bladed kind. One day while shaving, I thought to myself, “This is fine, but how could I shave in a way that is more expensive, takes a lot more time, uses more energy, is worse for the environment, and yet doesn’t work as well and is vastly more irritating to my skin?” Luckily, the answer was close at hand: the Norelco “Nivea for Men” razor. This baby meets all my requirements, and then some. It only works with lotion sold in a special injector bottle, and you need a great deal of it. The rechargeable batteries supply little power to the anemic motor, so it takes forever to cut through my beard, and even then, it leaves an intolerable length of stubble behind. It’ll run for less than 30 minutes per charge, and if you’re lucky you’ll get three shaves out of that, so expect to have this thing plugged in all the time, drawing current. It really only works in the shower, so you’ll also use a lot of extra hot water standing there trying to get your stubble off.
And by the third day, my face felt like hamburger. The instruction book actually warns that this will happen, and insists that you need to give yourself a month to get used to a new way of shaving. Sorry, but I think after a month I’d look like the elephant man — a hairy elephant man.
One final note: unlike many electrics, this razor has no trimmer, so you’ll need a safety razor to clean up your sideburns or other edges. All in all, this is the worst grooming device of any kind I’ve ever seen.

The HS8420 works as advertised. I bought this item because I really wanted the Nivea dispenser, but in my opinion my 7 year old Philips razor did a marginally better shaving job. Specifically I have to press harder and go slower with the HS8420 to get the same results so it takes me a couple of minutes more to shave. Not a big deal since the end result is good.

I use a Gillette Fusion Power blade system razor and Gillette Gel cream and nothing works better for me than blade shaving. Electric razors are simply too much trouble and this Norelco with Nivea dispensing is no different. No matter what gizmos or conditioners they add on, electric razors still will not equal blade razors, probably until they have the technology to have a million individually-programmable lasers to zap off your wiskers electronically. Until that day, blade shaving will always be superior, and also simpler, quicker and easier. Gillette Fusion is expensive, but the cartridges last a long time and all you need is regular shaving gel. Despite the Nivea dispensing this Norelco still will not work as well as even a Gillette Mach III cartridge system. I will stick with my Fusion system. I simply don’t like electric shaving systems, I like blade shaving. I don’t see that changing anytime in the forseeable future.
